FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What size cake do I need?
We work with you to make sure that your perfect cake design meets the required number of slices for your guests. It depends on the size of the slices and tiers you require however, as a guide…
3 tiers will serve 70 to 120 guests and 4 tiers will serve 130 to 210 guests.
How much will my cake cost?
Each cake is different; it depends on the amount of decoration, how many servings you need, what type of flowers you have (sugar or fresh) and where we are delivering to. Please contact us for a no obligation quotation.
Do you offer dummy / faux tiers?
Yes absolutely! We love faux tiers! They help us to ensure that your cake serves exactly the right amount without you compromising on the perfect design. We also create ‘backstage’ cakes that are held in the kitchens and served at the same time as the main wedding cake to make up any shortfall in the number of slices. The combination of the two gives us so much flexibility to create just the right amount of cake for you and your guests without lots of wasted cake…and wedding budget!
What is a dummy tier?
It is a ‘cake’ made of polystyrene, iced to look exactly the same as the rest of the cake. No one but the bride and groom (and anyone else who looks at the cake order!) would know that a tier is a dummy. Most of our cakes feature at least one dummy.
Do you charge for bespoke flavours?
Definitely not! All of our cakes are made fresh, in the same week as your wedding so we have no need to impose a set menu on you or to charge for bespoke flavours. It is our pleasure to create your wedding cake in the exact design that you love and in the exact flavours that you love. Anything less wouldn’t be perfection in our books!
How many flavours can I have?
As many as your cake will allow…if you have four tiers, you can have four flavours! It’s all part of the service.
Do you offer consultations & tasting's? Is there a charge?
We love meeting our clients and learning all about their special day. The more information we have, the better we can design a cake that will suit your needs. Consultations are held on Tuesday's and Saturdays, they are free for orders over the value of £500.00. For smaller orders a fee of £25.00 will be charged.
What happens after the consultation?
After your consultation we will provide you with a bespoke quotation and we will work with you on developing the design until you feel that it is perfect. When you are ready to book you will be required to pay a 50% non-refundable deposit. The remainder is due six weeks before your wedding.
I can’t get to you / live far away, can you post samples?
We’d be delighted to! We bake samples on the same day that we post them to ensure that they arrive fresh and yummy for you to devour. Our cakes travel with an overnight courier so do let us know if you would prefer them to be delivered to your office as a signature is required…although maybe don’t tell your workmates that you are having cake delivered! We charge £25.00 for postal samples which is refunded once you place your order providing it is over £500.00.
I don’t know which design I want just yet but I know I want Princess Patisserie to make it for me. Can I ‘save the date’?
We recommend booking your wedding cake at least 8 to 12 months in advance, especially for key summer dates. If you are unsure of your wedding day style and would like to ‘save the date’, you can pay a deposit of £300.00 which is non-refundable but fully redeemable against your final bill once you decide on the design.
Can I collect my cake to save money?
No. We care too much! We deliver each and every cake that we create and we always will. Our cakes never travel fully constructed, each tier travels in its own box and your wedding cake is constructed on site at your venue at a time that fits in with your day and we do not leave until we are happy that it and its surroundings look perfect.
